When an FIBC touches food, feed or food-adjacent ingredients, it becomes a food-contact article. That triggers a different set of controls than an industrial bag.
What 'food-grade' really requires
A genuine food-grade bag is produced in a controlled environment, often an ISO 8 (Class 100,000) cleanroom, from virgin food-approved polypropylene, with metal detection and documented hygiene procedures. It is not simply a standard bag with a nicer label.
Certification you can verify
Look for recognised marks such as BRCGS (formerly BRC) and compliance with FDA 21 CFR for food-contact materials. We supply food-grade FIBCs with BRCGS certification and full batch traceability on request.
Handling discipline
- Store bags in sealed, pest-controlled areas.
- Keep inner liners closed until point of use.
- Train staff on contamination control at fill and discharge.
If your application is food, feed or pharmaceutical, specify food-grade from the outset — retrofitting hygiene after the fact is rarely possible.
